Photo Decal Transfers with Keith Mays
In this hands-on mini workshop, Keith will teach you his process to transfer photo images to pottery using overglaze decals. With Keith’s instruction, you will transfer your images to pots your pots, then load them into a kiln for firing. Registration includes one 8.5”x11” sheet of your original photos turned into overglaze decals.
Registration includes a 3 hour group lesson with Keith, one standard printer paper size sheet of decals printed with your original images, and approximately 12”w x 16”l x 6”h of kiln space in a cone 012 overglaze firing.
This workshop works in conjunction with Keith’s free public workshop from June 18th , 2025 (watch in person, or on KC Clay Guild’s YouTube or Instagram page). You will use his instructions from that workshop to prepare the images you submit to Keith for printing. You will be expected to provide a file of your edited images fit to an 8.5x11” sheet to Keith by July 18th, 2025. You may use up to 5 original images, but can replicate those images to fill the sheet. Once you've registered and paid, send your images to workshops@kcclayguild.org.
Students may purchase up to 2 additional sheets of printed decals for $5 each. Keith will provide basic after-editing to optimize your images for printing. If you require extensive assistance for editing, Keith will edit for $10/sheet.
For this in-person workshop session, bring enough pots to fill your allotted kiln space, scissors, and a flexible rubber rib (mudtools red rib or similar). Pots must be fully glaze fired prior to the class with a white or light color. The images you apply will be black, so make sure you use a glaze that will make that pop. Pots can be cone 5 or 10.
